Frugal June 2020 Vegetable

Vegetables are awesome this way!

I found a bag of green beans and as usual I adore being frugal in all things, so they only cost a dollar in the mark-down bin.

I took them home and snapped off the ends and snapped them in two. Next I washed them and let them dry out so they would hold the olive oil and spices.

I put all into a large bowl and lightly poured oil over them and hand mixed together. Time for what-ever spices you like now. I chose accent-pink salt-garlic powder-onion powder and taco seasoning in the bottle.

I oiled my three pizza pans lightly and put the string bens on all three pans, Then I added more accent and taco seasonings lightly along with garlic powder also.

I baked these in the oven on 350 degrees for one hour, while turning beans along the way. They shrivel down and reduce in size after cooking for an hour, to have a crunch to some of them. Taste test and if needed add more taco seasoning as the bottle of spice is weaker than the packets of spice. Now enjoy and try not to eat them all at once as they are really awesome this way.

This is my recipe that I created to share with you so keep it or keep coming back to check out my web-page to always have it stored for you. Thank you for viewing my web-site!

Peach Sorbet

I went to a produce store the other day and I saw some bags of peaches marked down to a dollar each bag. They just had a few soft spots on them, so I washed them and cut off the spots, along with peeling them also.

It,s kind of funny that I found those peaches, as I had been thinking of a peach sorbet, which is like an Italian Ice! I paid a dollar a bag and ended up with around ten peaches. Oh the heavenly smell, as I was slicing into them! Smelled like heaven to me!

#frozen #homemade

I added a cup of sugar to this bowl and one half cup or water. Then I put this mixture through my food processor in two batches, as I have a small processor and processed until smooth.

Then I poured everything into a quart plastic covered bowl and put it into the freezer for eight hours. The photo will show only a third of the sorbet, as I shared with two of my friends also.

Age Spots

Today I want to talk about a short subject called age spots or as old timers called them, liver spots. They are dark brown spots that appear on your body, usually around 50 years of age.

They may appear under your bust line for ladies or around on your back or possibly anywhere. They seem to be harmless when you check Google information about them.

But I do not like mine and they seem to spread over more territory of the body. So I have found something that keeps them at bay, sort of like a lion tamer. Get Back!

I use a tiny container to keep around the bathroom sink so I remember it often! I use 1 tablespoon of epsom salts in 1/4 cup of water, or whatever size your tiny container will hold in liquid. If this dries out the salt will cut your finger so keep adding a dash of water, right before it dries out.

In the morning and at night, you just dip your finger in this solution and rub it on those nasty looking spots. I have them on my back-bone (yuck). So I put this on my back almost every night and this dries them out and sometimes they even fall off as they get smaller and smaller.

I know this is an icky subject but we ladies do want to look pretty! No pictures for this subject today. This is just something I figured out and that I do. Warm hugs and love from me to you!

June 2020 Pest Control

Pest Control

I have used this method of pest control for the past 30 years and will still be using it hopefully for the next 30. In the past 8 years I have only seen 8 of those German roaches that multiply so fast1 This is how good this stuff works.

First go to the Dollar Store and buy some very small plastic containers like you would make a face cream or etc. in. Next go to the grocery store and buy a box of 20 Mule Team Borax in the soap powder isle.

Now you take a small bowl and put 1/2 cup borax and 1/4 cup of powdered sugar in it and whisk together. Spoon powder into containers and set 1 in each room of the house, where kids or pets can not get to it.

This remedy sticks to the insect and goes back to it’s nest and kills the rest! Works for sugar ants! And many other bugs also.

Just renew this powder every season of the year! You know if it works on my apartment that is attached to many other apartments and more near me(It Works). As all people are not the same type of house cleaners that I am. I hope this helps someone! Please share this online with

Saving Garden Seeds

In this day and time, it might be a wise thing to collect and save seeds to plant for next year’s garden planting time. And also to save every year for next year and so on.

The first thing is to always but seeded watermelons’ like old times the vegetables and fruit that still have the seeds in them. If you store them in little freezer bags into one large freezer bag’ you can always find them in the deep freezer later on when you need them.

Banana and Bell Peppers ready for deep freezer.
The very best cantalope and watermelon seed from a produce truck. From Immockalee
Fl. to Live Oak Fl.

So as you eat the fruit or vegetable please save your seed and try to wash out most of the pulp by using a sieve. But do leave some pulp in. Now take a little tiny bowl and add seed and cover with water and add a small spray of watered down bleach to this.Sit in the kitchen window sill so you don’t forget about them for 2 days.

Next drain off water and set back in window sill to dry out. The bleach makes the seed more bug resistant at planting time next year! Then put in tiny sandwich baggies and label and date each bag. Only save the very best tasting(seeds). Now store in gallon size freezer bag until next year at planting time.

I have been doing this for more years than I can count! And you can also do this and grow the very best. If you get a great tasting tomato from the store or produce truck etc. Be sure to save the seeds this way for next year’s bounty! I grew my tomatoes from a store package this year but they are Rutgers some of the very best tasting tomatoes out there that is if I can fight the bugs off of them. They are tough this year. So I am embarrassed to show these tomato plants from seed in my apartment garden but I will.

I so miss having land with 3 gardens going at once! But I still love to garden. Here are my skimpy plants as I have had to de-leaf bug damage so many times. But I have Diazenous Earth sprinkled lightly on them for now. It is safe for vegetables.

This is for the teens

You could stop wasting your money if you try this and see the results for yourself! This is not a very polite subject to post about so stop right here if you are sqeemish!

Have you ever sat doen and read the ingredients on those expensive pimple creams that are on the market? They all contain one main ingredient which is peroxide. By the way it is pretty frugal to buy and use.

Also if you keep using your hands you will build up scare tissue with large indents on your face so please don,t. Go to Walmart and buy yourself a pimple looped popper that you can use instead and always sterilize it after usage by washing it with soap or alchol.

Just dab it on at night and in the morning and see the results for yourself! And I am sure you could spend your well -saved money to do fun things with. I myself am 61 years a teenager if I keep my mindset that way, then life will always be fun right up to the end. But loving God and living for Him is the missing key to a happy and mainly peaceful life from beginning till the end of time.

May you find this Glorious peace and Joy to Carry You through All Things In Life, just by adding or keeping God in your daily goings for each and everyday! I am sending each one of you love and hugs from me to you this day and everyday.

My Smoky Italian Soup

Hey Everyone” I just created this incredible Smoky Italian Soup recipe and would like to give you the recipe to hopefully create and enjoy for your family!

First of all buy yourself a smoked ham and cook this for a Holiday dinner’ while saving the hambone with a little meat on the bone. You then save this hambone in your freezer until you are ready to create this awesome soup.

Defrost the hambone and put in a medium to large pot. I use Granny’s special steel pot that she gave me. Add in 6 cups of water(The glass measuring cup type) as it is for liquids. Put the lid on the pot and boil for an hour and then take bone out of pot to cool and de-bone the meat off of’when it has cooled down. Cut into small pieces.

Put back into the pot and add in accent, garlic powder, salt, cayenne pepper, basil, parsley, and black or white pepper using 1/4 tsp. of each of these.

Peel 1/2 of a large onion and peel 4 large garlic cloves and add in to the pot. Open 1 can of cannoli beans(Walmart) and pour entire contents into the soup pot. and cook on medium temperature for 30 minutes.

Next hand wash 3 huge handfuls of spinach and cut in half (you can guess where they will be going by now).In the pot. Add in 4 cups of water along with 1 cup of Barilla Ditalini noodles (Publix) and 1 package of washed and then sliced button mushrooms (produce isle). Cook on medium heat uncovered pot for 8 minutes.

Now you add in 1 cup of half and half and 1 cup of milk and keep stirring the pot. Next add in 1 ounce of cubed Cabot extra sharp cheddar cheese and keep stirring until melted. Now you have finished this recipe, I had my soup with saltines as I did not bake the hot home-made fresh bread that this Smoky Italian Soup was calling out for and did so richly deserve! Next time it will have it,s needs fulfilled, you can bet on that!

Sending you love and hugs for every day. While you are here, please do check out my archives and please share and come back soon as I post on Saturday and Tuesdays. #soup #recipe

Crisp Apples

This recipe came from my all-time favorite blog! Over at https://www.whipporwillholler. Mrs. Lori Brown and Mr. Brown are two beloved people to me and many others. So I hope you visit them also!

I had 2 bags of McIntosh apples (my favorite). I peeled and used an apple cutter and hand cut out the little bit of hard core left on the slices. As I had so many apples I did 5 at a time so I could get them into my large bowl with 1/4 cup of lemon juice in the bowl so the apples would not turn ugly brown. As I put in each set of sliced apples, I used my hane to rotate top apples to the bottom so all had lemon juice on them.

Next I used a large stoneware crock as I have always wanted to use a crock and have for a few things now! You layer apple slices and sugar. I only used a total of two cups of sugar throughout the whole process. My friend (Lori Brown) used a cup for each layer but I always use less sugar in everything I make!

When fished with sugar being the top layer, nothing fits my crock except for a maxwell house coffee container lid and on top of this I put a heavy jar of jelly to weigh it down. Next I put a clean dishtowel over top of all and use a thick rubber-band to go around towel and the crock. Leave this on the counter for 24 hours or even 30 hours as I did. Ae times opening and rotating apples with your hands. You will see lovely apple juice filling the bottom of crock.

Have a tiny pan with boiling water for your jar lids to sit in until you need them in a few minutes. Have the jar rimms ready also. Think I used 6 to eight jars. It will be in photo.

Also have a large water bath canning pot with boiling water ready now. That has water filled to top of jar depth in it.

The next day just heat up 4 cups of water with one cup of sugar and add everything from crock into this simple syrup you made. Heat till just warmed through not boiling. Put this into pint jars to 1/2 inch headspace and de-bubble, wipe rims with vinegar paper towel. Finger tighten.

Put in canner and when a rolling boil starts you set your timer for 20 minutes. Remove with jar lifter as these are hot and heavy! Put on folded dish towel right beside stove and listen for the pings!

Always sending you warm wishes and hugs from me to you! #crispy,#sweet https://www.wisdomforpennies.com/

Candy Apple Preserves

Hey ya’ll. I promised to post this recipe so here it is!

Buy two bags of McIntosh apples for this recipe. I am doing this backwards as I put up crisp apples in pint jats first and then used the scraps to make this candy apple preserve recipe theat I created on the second day of canning.

So you use all cores-seeds-peels and put in a large heavy duty pot. I use Granny’s old steel pot that she used for many years before it was passed down to me. Add in 6 cups of water over the peels-etc. Boil on medium heat for an hour with covered lid on pot.

Then next step is to use a medium sized sieve set over top of large pan or bowl. Put large spoonfuls of cooked ingredients into sieve and use a large wooden spoon to rub apple mixture around and around sieve until you have nothing left that will go through the sieve. As you are doing this keep running a butter knife under the bottom of sieve to collect the applesauce that keeps acumeullating over and over. Now just trash what is left over in sieve and keep repeating all steps until you are through with everything.

Put all into a heavy large pot again and add 1 cup of sugar and bring to a rolling boil. Stirring the whole time through all this last step.(It will burn) if you don’t. Put a candy themomerer on side of pot(medium pot helps). Keep on heating and stirring until you see 220 degrees Farenheight. So it will be thick for later. Take off heat.

Have a large water bath canning pot boiling with water depth almost jar high so you will be ready for your preserves to be canned.

I used maraschino cherry jars for my jelly jars and got 2 1/2 jars worth of preserves. The 1/2 jar was sampled by everyone. You use a funnel to fill jars to 1/2 inch headspace and then de bubble(look back at previous posts). Then wipe rims with vinegar on a napkin and put on lid finger tight. Put in water canner pot and make sure the water is 1 to 2 inches over the top of the jars. When rolling boil starts then set a timer for 10 minutes. Use jar lifter to move from pot to folded dishtowel beside the stove. Listen for the pings! That tells you that you did very well!

I hope you will try this recipe. I adore it! https://www.wisdomforpennies.com
