Homemade Yogurt

Good morning to everyone on this last day of October 2020. I hope that you are doing well today and have a really good day. I am enjoying some very nice and cool weather for this North Florida day.

I will have to post the photo, next month, when I make up some of this awesome yogurt for myself, again. This yogurt is thick, but not as thick as what you buy that is already made. So the texture is smooth but a little more drippy than the store bought type, and I do not want to add any thickner’s to it as I want it natural.

When you have finished making this yogurt and stored it in multiple bowls, then the combinations are endless for your own choice of flavors. I end up with 4 Betty Crocker plastic, square bowls that are half filled with yogurt and that’s a lot of yogurt! This will also last for a month in the refrigerator.

You could make banana yogurt or apples and cinnamon or strawberry or peach or blueberry or raspberry, just use your imagination!

The recipe is—-one 8 oz container of plain yogurt (must say acciladolphus) active cultures on it.

1/2 gallon of whole milk

2c. powdered milk

Farenhight themometer

Heating Pad

Start this recipe by putting the yogurt into an ice-tray the day before. When froze then put this in a ziplock baggie for your culture for this time and ten more yogurt adventures also. Thaw out 2 cubes when you start to make this recipe.

In a large heavy duty pot, pour in the half a gallon of whole milk and the 2 cups of powdered milk. Using a whisk to stir this the whole time that you are making this recipe. You do not want it to burn. Use medium heat.

Use your themometer to see that it gets up to 180-190 F. Then take off heat and cool down to 100-110 F and then add in the thawed 2 yogurt cubes and stir.

Set up your hot pad on top of a cutting board and turn to medium heat. Put the pot that is covered with a lid on it, on the hot pad and leave for 8 hours, or overnight, is my choice. Stir once in a while to make sure that it is not burning. When finished, you will have something amazing to add sugar and fruit to create your flavors. You could toss granola on top, when ready to eat. You can also leave it plain for sour-cream or use some in baking or cooking.

I do hope that you will try this! I have made this for many years and need to get back into it, which I plan to do just that.

Thank you for your visit and feel free to check out my monthly archives of recipes and things, while you are here. Please share my blog with others.Thank you again Connie B.

Mango Ice Cream

Wow is all I can say!

Here is my recipe that I have been promising you from last week. All I can say is WOW! It is to die for!

Recipe Ingredients are: 3 mangos peeled and scraped from the seed.

1/2 can of sweetened condensed milk. 2 tsp. lemon juice pinch of salt

Put this in a food proccessor or a blender or even a mixing bowl. And mix until smooth. Then put in a freezer container with a closed lid and freeze for a day.

Now you do have to take this out and let it set out on the counter for 30 minutes before you can scoop it out, all nice and pretty like! Next time I may reblend it after it has been froze for a day, to see if it is more scoopable. Love too all. https://www.wisdomforpennies.com

PS That,s my little baby food processor in the photo so I did this in two batches. Anything works so it,s your turn now.

Irish Cream Coffee Mate

Yesterday I put this together as I have been meaning to do for a while. And it is awesome to me. I will no longer be buying this at the grocery store anymore!

The Ingredients are:

One can of evaporated milk

Two cans of sweetened condensed milk

Four big shots glasses of Tennessee Whiskey.

Imagine that! It’s as good as it sounds!

Use a large bowl and pour all three cans of milk in it.

Whisk together well.

Add your four whiskey shots to this and whisk together well again.

Next step is to pour this into an empty 32 oz container. Your last bought empty jug of creamer will work just fine! There may be about four Tablespoons that will not fit into the container!

I found this idea at a youtube channel that I adore. This man is so funny and He is Inteligent also. I really enjoy his channel! You need to check him out! http://youtube.com/user/DoingItCheap

Powdered Sugar

If you happen to run out of powdered sugar and do not want to go out to the grocery store, then all you need to do is put your amount of sugar needed into the food processor or blender and grind it into powdered sugar. Let it grind a little while so that you do not have any sugar granules left over. As always love and hugs to each and every-one of you from me to you. https://www.wisdomforpennies.com

Keeping Milk Fresh

I found this little idea last year in 2019 and I have used it ever since!

Does your gallon of milk spoil before you can use it all up? Well, mine used to all of the time’ until I learned this handy tip.

This is the tip. I smell all foods that go through my kitchen so it is only natural for me to smell my milk before using for anything. So just as you smell it or taste it going slightly off this is what extends your milk’s life for another 5 days of time to use it up.

I sprinkle into my milk jug about 10 little salt grains (any salt will do) I only use pink Himalayan salt as it does not contain chemicals in it. This does not make the milk taste salty at all. And it extends it’s life so that you can use the milk for anything you need it for.

This sounds crazy but it really works! #Dairy #Tips

PS. My milk has June 16th as the expiration date and today is June 27th and the milk in the jug is still fresh as when I bought it! So that’s 11 days of extension.

Dehydrating

Red potatoes with box grater.

I picked up two $1 bags of red potatoes na decided to deydrate them for dry storage as I an running out of room for my freezer storage and now my canning jar storage room. I am addicted to storing food in so many different ways like our Ancestors used to do! This just draws me closer to the old ways of preparing and storing the garden harvest as our past generations used to for survival. If you can understand that’it is just a bond that pulls me to the past ways of our families.

First you wash the red potatoes from all dirt. You may need a scrub brush if fresh from the garden.Mine were from a produce store so it was not too hard to get them cleaned up. Next you use the grater on the slicer side as you want circle cut potatoes. Slice 8 medium sized red potatoes and put ito a bowl of water that covers them.

Have a big pot of boiling water ready so that after you drain water off of potatoes’ you can drop into boiling water for 5 minutes only’ then pour into a strainer to drain and cool a little while. Now arrange as single file as you can on your dehydrator trays’ some overlapping is ok. Plugin and dry for 3 hours while rotating trays around one time. These have to be completely dry with no dampness anywhere.

Slicer side of grater.
All this from 8 medium red potatoes.

Now store these in a gallon freezer baggie. I did two times of dehydrating for 16 potatoes total to fill this bag up. When I order myself some oxygen absorbers I will put a few in each gallon baggie and then store baggie in a tote so no critters can get in to them and these will last 30 years.

Frugal June 2020 Vegetable

Vegetables are awesome this way!

I found a bag of green beans and as usual I adore being frugal in all things, so they only cost a dollar in the mark-down bin.

I took them home and snapped off the ends and snapped them in two. Next I washed them and let them dry out so they would hold the olive oil and spices.

I put all into a large bowl and lightly poured oil over them and hand mixed together. Time for what-ever spices you like now. I chose accent-pink salt-garlic powder-onion powder and taco seasoning in the bottle.

I oiled my three pizza pans lightly and put the string bens on all three pans, Then I added more accent and taco seasonings lightly along with garlic powder also.

I baked these in the oven on 350 degrees for one hour, while turning beans along the way. They shrivel down and reduce in size after cooking for an hour, to have a crunch to some of them. Taste test and if needed add more taco seasoning as the bottle of spice is weaker than the packets of spice. Now enjoy and try not to eat them all at once as they are really awesome this way.

This is my recipe that I created to share with you so keep it or keep coming back to check out my web-page to always have it stored for you. Thank you for viewing my web-site!

Age Spots

Today I want to talk about a short subject called age spots or as old timers called them, liver spots. They are dark brown spots that appear on your body, usually around 50 years of age.

They may appear under your bust line for ladies or around on your back or possibly anywhere. They seem to be harmless when you check Google information about them.

But I do not like mine and they seem to spread over more territory of the body. So I have found something that keeps them at bay, sort of like a lion tamer. Get Back!

I use a tiny container to keep around the bathroom sink so I remember it often! I use 1 tablespoon of epsom salts in 1/4 cup of water, or whatever size your tiny container will hold in liquid. If this dries out the salt will cut your finger so keep adding a dash of water, right before it dries out.

In the morning and at night, you just dip your finger in this solution and rub it on those nasty looking spots. I have them on my back-bone (yuck). So I put this on my back almost every night and this dries them out and sometimes they even fall off as they get smaller and smaller.

I know this is an icky subject but we ladies do want to look pretty! No pictures for this subject today. This is just something I figured out and that I do. Warm hugs and love from me to you!

June 2020 Pest Control

Pest Control

I have used this method of pest control for the past 30 years and will still be using it hopefully for the next 30. In the past 8 years I have only seen 8 of those German roaches that multiply so fast1 This is how good this stuff works.

First go to the Dollar Store and buy some very small plastic containers like you would make a face cream or etc. in. Next go to the grocery store and buy a box of 20 Mule Team Borax in the soap powder isle.

Now you take a small bowl and put 1/2 cup borax and 1/4 cup of powdered sugar in it and whisk together. Spoon powder into containers and set 1 in each room of the house, where kids or pets can not get to it.

This remedy sticks to the insect and goes back to it’s nest and kills the rest! Works for sugar ants! And many other bugs also.

Just renew this powder every season of the year! You know if it works on my apartment that is attached to many other apartments and more near me(It Works). As all people are not the same type of house cleaners that I am. I hope this helps someone! Please share this online with
