Hot Nacho’s

This has always been one of my favorites. Hot nacho’s smothered in hot and gooey melted cheese with lots of jalapeno peppers.

Back in the year of 1984 when I was pregnant with my Son, I craved these things and they were cheap at the Indian Store that was in the neighborhood, so that was my wish from the store. It’s kinda funny because when my Son was a wee little one, he loved these also. The peppers and all.

Now days I keep tortilla chips and jalapenos in the house. I also keep boxed cheese in the house.

My recipe: Cut off a 1 inch thickness slice of the cheese

Put tortilla chips on a plate Have 1/4 c milk or even less nearby

Chop up jalapeno peppers first- have tortilla chips on a plate to warm in microwave.

Put cheese in a melting bowl for the microwave and add the milk by the Tablespoons only. Maybe start with 2. Stay beside the microwave as you are melting this, to keep checking to see if you need more milk or so that it will not burn the cheese. If you happen to use too much milk, then you can add a little more cheese to get it to thicken into a nice cheese sauce.

Take out of microwave and put in chips to heat for a very short while as they will catch on fire, ask me how I know. Then you stir the peppers into the cheese sauce and spoon all over the tortilla chips.

Now sit right down and enjoy these while they are hot!

Banana Cough Syrup

I tried this last year and it worked for me. I do not know if it will work on you? My Son tells me Mama you have to add this so I am. I am not a Dr., I am just a Mama with a heart to help people.

Ok Isaiah, I have said it!

Anyway let me get back to this remedy.

Ingredients are: Two peeled bananas 2 Tablespoons of honey

1 2/3 cup of water boiled

Put bananas in food blender and mix up. Then you stir the bananas into the boiled water and let it cool down, before you add in 2 Tablespoons of honey.

I take 2 or 3 Tablespoons daily when I have a bad cough. It does have a good taste. Now as for this mess going around in the world now, I would advise you go to the Dr. for your cough syrup needs!

I took this when I had a simple cold/flu. But what’s out in this world right now is nothing to take lightly. Love to you all!

July 2020 Laundry Detergent

Fresh Batch

I ran out of my laundry soap that I make up from Borax and Arm and Hammer and a bar of Zote soap. So today I had to make up some more of this sweet smelling stuff. It made a large coffee mate container size that was filled up and this was the over-flow so I thought that I would share this with you.

I only use two Tablespoons of this and a quarter cap full of a clothing scent as I have allergies so badly. But these I can tolerate well and I love the fresh smell of my laundry when it is fininhed. I use these small amounts in a huge front end loader washing machine that is packed full of clothes.

You can find the instructions to make this if you go back in my posts to the laundry post. I hope you will try this and share this post with all your friends. Hugs and love from me to you.

Repel The Flies

This is a very interesting topic that I just came across on the internet from Julie Morgan on Facebook.

To repel flies all you have to do is fill a quart ziplock baggie half-way with water and then drop in 7 pennies The next step is to nail this bag somewhere up high on a window sill or a barn wall’ Even in a restaurant where-ever you have a fly problem. This would be great at a picnic!

This causes the flies to see a prism and they can not stand to be near it! Thanks to Julie Morgan for this tip.

Lets keep the flies outside where they belong. https://www.wisdomforpennies.com

Dehydrating

Red potatoes with box grater.

I picked up two $1 bags of red potatoes na decided to deydrate them for dry storage as I an running out of room for my freezer storage and now my canning jar storage room. I am addicted to storing food in so many different ways like our Ancestors used to do! This just draws me closer to the old ways of preparing and storing the garden harvest as our past generations used to for survival. If you can understand that’it is just a bond that pulls me to the past ways of our families.

First you wash the red potatoes from all dirt. You may need a scrub brush if fresh from the garden.Mine were from a produce store so it was not too hard to get them cleaned up. Next you use the grater on the slicer side as you want circle cut potatoes. Slice 8 medium sized red potatoes and put ito a bowl of water that covers them.

Have a big pot of boiling water ready so that after you drain water off of potatoes’ you can drop into boiling water for 5 minutes only’ then pour into a strainer to drain and cool a little while. Now arrange as single file as you can on your dehydrator trays’ some overlapping is ok. Plugin and dry for 3 hours while rotating trays around one time. These have to be completely dry with no dampness anywhere.

Slicer side of grater.
All this from 8 medium red potatoes.

Now store these in a gallon freezer baggie. I did two times of dehydrating for 16 potatoes total to fill this bag up. When I order myself some oxygen absorbers I will put a few in each gallon baggie and then store baggie in a tote so no critters can get in to them and these will last 30 years.

Peach Sorbet

I went to a produce store the other day and I saw some bags of peaches marked down to a dollar each bag. They just had a few soft spots on them, so I washed them and cut off the spots, along with peeling them also.

It,s kind of funny that I found those peaches, as I had been thinking of a peach sorbet, which is like an Italian Ice! I paid a dollar a bag and ended up with around ten peaches. Oh the heavenly smell, as I was slicing into them! Smelled like heaven to me!

#frozen #homemade

I added a cup of sugar to this bowl and one half cup or water. Then I put this mixture through my food processor in two batches, as I have a small processor and processed until smooth.

Then I poured everything into a quart plastic covered bowl and put it into the freezer for eight hours. The photo will show only a third of the sorbet, as I shared with two of my friends also.

Peach Sorbet for only two dollars and a little sugar! https://www.wisdomforpennies.com/ #peach #fruit #sorbet

Pest Control

I have used this method of pest control for the past 30 years and will still be using it hopefully for the next 30. In the past 8 years I have only seen 8 of those German roaches that multiply so fast1 This is how good this stuff works.

First go to the Dollar Store and buy some very small plastic containers like you would make a face cream or etc. in. Next go to the grocery store and buy a box of 20 Mule Team Borax in the soap powder isle.

Now you take a small bowl and put 1/2 cup borax and 1/4 cup of powdered sugar in it and whisk together. Spoon powder into containers and set 1 in each room of the house, where kids or pets can not get to it.

This remedy sticks to the insect and goes back to it’s nest and kills the rest! Works for sugar ants! And many other bugs also.

Just renew this powder every season of the year! You know if it works on my apartment that is attached to many other apartments and more near me(It Works). As all people are not the same type of house cleaners that I am. I hope this helps someone! Please share this online with

Feeling Safe

This is a little item that will help you feel a little safer when you are out on the road. It,s cheap and should do the job very well. But alas as I have had no volunteer for a test try, I can only guess.

The Terminator powerful stun gun is a little something I found on Amazon I believe or maybe Ebay for under $20.00. It is supposed to lay a man down, way down on the ground, if He is trying to rob you. It says to only use for 3 seconds as that will do the job well enough!

The high voltage shock causes your attacker to have messages from the brain dissrupted and voluntary muscles to be disrupted. Your attacker will loose balance and muscle control and this will bring Him to his knees! Oh by the way it has a flashlight button also that is a slider button so you will not confuse it will the round press button that sparks the voltage that you do have to be close enough to touch the person with.

The Terminator cost $9.49 with free shipping included from Amazon.

I am just a person trying to protect myself if ever there comes a need! If ever there does you can expect the story here at https://www.wisdomforpennies.com Thank you for visiting and please do, come back soon. Stay well and stay safe everyone.

Home Pest Control

I just read a post about ants and it made me think about this time of the year when it is very dry with no rain. You start to see ants building mounds on your sidewalks and over grass and twigs. This has always showed me that a big rain is coming soon.

I have been my own pest control person for too many years to even count now (around 30 years). This is my remedy and you have to know that it works as I have never changed this remedy for all these years of using it.

This also works on roaches and sugar ants which are almost impossible to exterminate! You do need to keep this away from children and pets just as you do for cleaning supplies and other harmful products!

I make this and put it out in jar lids or tiny containers from the Dollar Tree Store(which is a cool place to be frugal at) for supplies you use. It also lasts me for 2 years at least. Because I only use this for pest control and doing my laundry.

To make this remedy I just Get a small bowl and put in 1/2 cup of Borax and 1/4th cup of powdered sugar both as dry powders and stir together. Put this in every room of the house or apartment in mayonnaise jar lids or tiny containers from the Dollar Tree store. I do not add water because if you do then it turns into a silicone within a week and then you have to top each one off with a little water every week. (I used to do this). Then I found out that used as a dry powder you only have to mess with this each season to put out fresh powder. Summer-Fall-Winter and Spring.

So this is Connie’s pest control and it is very frugal and this works excellent! I hope you will try this and save yourself some money and have your home be bug-free.

As always Love-Hugs and Prayers for you and your family.   <pest-control>

How to make your own laundry detergent on the cheap

I want to share this awesome frugal and sweet-smelling homemade laundry detergent that I have been making and using for too many years to count. I did find the recipe on Pinterest a long time ago!

Ingredient List
      Box of 20 Mule Team Borax {in the laundry section of store}
              Box of Arm and Hammer Washing Powders {Ditto}
  Bar of Zote Soap {Ditto}

First use a grater as shown or be smart and cut into chunks for the food processor to do the hard work.  I’m just sentimental about the old ways of our previous generations of Mom’s and Grannies’ long gone but never forgotten,

so I choose the hard way. to grate this bar of soap up. I love to try to keep old memories alive and traveling into future generations. This is the reason for this blog.

Next measure out 4 cups,  which is two of each powder and put it into a large bowl.  Now if you used the grater you now have to put bar soap shavings into a food processor to grate up smaller. I usually mix the powders together and add the processed bar of soap into the powder and stir together. Then I store this in a coffee container with a condiment cup that I fill with 2 tbsp of detergent and then use a marker to draw a line around the cup for a measurement line for each load of laundry that I wash.  Now you could use only 1 tbsp of this per load but I love how this smells and feels on my washed clothing so I use 2 tbsp. I also toss in 1/4th of a cap of cheap Purex Crystals for sleeping salts.{Just kidding} just for scent only for each very large front end loader machine. The huge one!

This homemade detergent is safe for all septic tanks and the environment.  It is also safe for babies and kids and yourself. It really cleans fantastic as well! Also, you can’t beat the price. I forget if it’s 3 cents or 6 cents for each load of laundry for a medium of large or even extra-large load sizes. For a very small load, I would only 1 tbsp.
I do add 1/4th of a capful of Purex scented bead to each load for a light scent.

I sincerely hope you will try this yourself and form your own opinions about this awesome stuff! You only have to buy the two washing powders every year or two. Please forgive my old looking table.it belonged to a man that crafted and it is still being used for painting on and many other crafts. Also sorry the photos are so dark today! Love and Hugs from me to you and your families and always prayers forevermore.  #Laundry #Borax
